In the last decade, breast cancer survivor rates have increased dramatically. To support survivors, during their therapies, Crittenden Regional Hospital constantly searches for protocols that can diminish the side effects of cancer treatments. Thanks to a generous grant from the United Way of the Mid-South, the hospital purchased a Lympha-Press Sequential Calibrated Gradient Compression Pump to treat Lymphedema. Lymphedema, also known as lymphatic obstruction, causes swelling, pain and pressure, and is a frequent side effect for breast cancer patients undergoing radiation therapies. Only a Certified Lymphedema Therapist may operate the pump to treat patients and Shanaaz Khan, OTRL/CLT in the Hospital’s Rehabilitation Clinic is fully qualified to provide this service to our patients throughout the Region.

The United Way of the Mid-South has served the people of our community by improving the common good since 1923. The United Way unites community resources for the public good through their support of health and human service needs. No other local volunteer-driven charitable organization helps more people —in as many ways, as United Way of the Mid-South.
