Emergency Services

The Emergency Department is staffed 24 hours a day by contracted physicians. Consultation services are available at all times by hospital medical staff that are on call on a 24 hour basis. Additional patient services are provided by experienced Registered Nurses, Nurse Technicians, Emergency Department Technicians, Unit Clerks and Admission Clerks.

Responsibility for the quality and appropriateness of care is assumed by the medical director, Robert Shull, M.D., and the Emergency Department Nursing Director, Lance Harrell, RN.

The Emergency Department participates in the organization-wide Performance Improvement Plan through strategic planning, quality occurrence reporting, and pertinent CQI projects.

The Emergency Department treats a high volume of ambulatory patients. High risk patents include:

  • Patients requiring transfer
    • Multiple trauma patients who are candidates for hospital admission
    • Post anti-thrombolytic patients
    • Critical pediatric patients
  • Patients requiring cardiac monitoring, airway management and resuscitation
  • Psychiatric patients (drug related)
  • Violent/Assaultive behavioral patients

Multiple trauma patients who are candidates for hospital admissions, post anti-thrombolytic therapy, and critical pediatric patients are transferred to another acute facility after appropriate evaluation, treatment and stabilization.

The Emergency Department is a Level II unit that offers Emergency Care services 24 hours a day, seven days per week and is responsible for the immediate treatment of any medical or surgical emergency, for initiating life-saving procedures in all types of emergency situations and for providing care for other conditions, including chronic medical problems and minor injuries and illnesses.
